CHAMPIONSHIP SQUAD OF THE WEEK – SAT 15TH AUG

The Championship got underway with plenty of individual performances worth recognising, with clubs helping Footy Focus put some names to the second weekend of action.

Here are some of the Championship players who caught the eye.

GK – Aiden Laurie – LOKOMOTIV
Aiden is our third choice after losing two keepers to broken fingers this season already he was superb, tipping 4 efforts onto the post or bar and saving several 1v1s, keeping Lokos in the game.

DEFENDERS

DEF – Parshant Malhotra – Glasgow Ansar
The big CB commanded the defence and kept us organised to keep the opposition lout. Got his head to everything with multiple clearances and was rewarded with a goal at the other end of the park

DEF – Ross Lynch – Westhill United
Ross has done superb since joining in the summer. A couple of really strong performances from him have had him right up there in the MOTM voting. Last ditch tackles and never giving in has earned him respect instantly with his new team mates.

MIDFIELDERS

MID – Lewis Barr – Remo FC
Lewis was superb on Saturday, setting up the winner and running his socks off when we were down to 10 men. A massive shift and a huge contribution to the 3–2 win. 👏🏻
MID – Marc Buckley – Westhill United
Marc, returning from an injury has been absolutely electric, his energy sparked us into life v KP and he continued that Saturday. His ball for the first goal and his finish were real moments of quality in the game.
MID – Hassan -Glasgow Ansar
Hassan done everything this weekend. Always an attacking threat and put in a great shift defensively. Didn’t feel we were a mad down due to his effort all game. Got two assists to top it off

MID – Thomas McPherson – Kings Park United
Thomas played in a more attacking role this week and he managed to create a handful of chances for his team mates. 2 assists and should have bagged a couple himself. A motm performance.
MID – Logan Buick – Muirend AFC
Gave third Lanark a torrid time with his pace from midfield.
MID – Murray Wilson – Gladstone Athletic
Got his second goal of the season on Saturday with a very clinical finish.  Was a nuisance the full game for the opposition picking up brilliant positions all over the park.

MID – Mitchell Clocherty – Remo FC
Mitch, as usual, bossed the midfield. We’d be lost without him! He done all the dirty work on Saturday and played a massive part in securing the 3–2 victory. 💪🏻

STRIKERS

STR – Aqib Ahmad – Glasgow Ansar
Aqib done an unbelievable job leading the line. Took pressure off the team and was unlucky to not get a goal for his performance.

ATT – Conor Aitken – Kings Park United
Conor came on at HT to add a bit of guile and craft to the game on a very tight pitch. Scored immediately after HT and his movement created problems for the Camby defenders.
