The second Saturday of the season gave us plenty of standout performances across the leagues, and once again clubs have been helping Footy Focus highlight the players who caught the eye.
From defenders putting in big performances at the back to midfielders driving their teams forward and strikers finding the net, here are some of the names who made an impression.
Going forward, we’d love clubs to send us their Man of the Match each week. It keeps things simple and gives every club the chance to have a player included, with the nominations helping us build our weekly Squad of the Week.
DEFENDERS
Our man of the match again. Brilliant work rate and winning all his duals
James was brilliantly on Saturday, he set up a goal and was a thorn in the side of Burnhill all game long.
first full start for the club and great display at right back, up and down all day.
DEF – J. O’Hara – North Kelvin
Getting the ex Hearts and Pollok man is a huge coup for us and his experience at the back showed – as well as his range of passing.
MIDFIELDERS
Linked up play from Midfield to attack well down the left and scores two great goals from the left hand side to give a commanding lead in the first half. Constantly tracking back to support the LB and tucking in to support the central Midfield
2 goals and was close to a perfect hat trick from the attacking midfielder.
MID – Kasra Abedi – North Kelvin
Kasra showed again why we are lucky to have kept him this summer. Pace and power, on display everytime he got the ball.
MID – Daniel McKeown – Cumbernauld Pumas
Tireless display closing down 1st and 2nd balls all over the pitch while supporting attacking play and protecting the back line.
was everywhere, winning tackles and headers – got 3 assists and was close to scoring a few himself.
midfielder who has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. Hatrick was well desreved.
STRIKERS
Two goals on his debut and an all round. Top performance from the striker.
Callum narrowly missed out on man of the match but scored 2. Relentless running and on another day gets a hattrick
Started up front as part of two man attack but dropped into the “10” role seamlessly and dictated attacking play while getting two assists and scoring a 25 yard free kick into the bargain.
Declan was excellent on Saturday, he scored a real strikers finish then went back into midfield and showed his class.
