Saturday morning football is back, and with the new season underway we’re taking a look at some of the players who caught the eye across the Premier League on the opening weekend.
Going forward, we’d love clubs to send us their Man of the Match each weekend, along with a short reason for their choice and a photo where possible.
We’ll bring those club selections together to form our Footy Focus Squad of the Week — giving clubs the chance to recognise the players who made a difference each Saturday.
DEFENDERS
The former Scottish amateur international showed has class with an inspired performance leading his team by example.
The left sided centre half was superb through the 90 minutes
Jay as usual strolled it at the back its unreal how easy he makes it look tbh oh and scored a halfway line lob for good measure
Absolutely solid performance from Jamie on Saturday. Had the confidence to break the lines from the back and scored a brilliant goal at a crucial time
Andy was excellent throughout his reading and understanding of playing at the back on Saturday were really good. His driving forward from the back gets the team higher up the pitch solid man of the match performance
JT backed up his midweek goal with a double on Saturday. An incredibly composed performance as expected.
In all fairness it could be the back 3 getting in team of the week. Christian just beats Gizzy. I don’t think he lost 1 header on Saturday again showing great defensive attributes, composure on the ball exceptional morning for the big man.
MIDFIELDERS
James turned in a hard working performance in his first game back after being out for a number of weeks
Covered every inch of the pitch. An excellent performance topped off with a goal.
STRIKERS
Smart gets the nod for this one.
Involved in most things. 3 assists and a goal says it all.
A constant threat all game long. Ethan scored 2 assisted 2 on another day he gets some more goals. A top class performance.
Vlad was superb all game long, the creative attacker was a constant threat to the Rossvale Huntershill defence
A fifteen minute hat trick for the attacker, John just didn’t score three goals he put in a top performance.
Another top performance from Brandon again Tollcross were 3-0 down after the first 15 mins of the game and Brandon scored a hat trick to get his club back into the match.
The striker fired nine goals against Netherton showing his array of finishing.
