Six predictions, three correct results and no exact scores. Hugh Dunnit faces the music after a Saturday when even his “big” 5–0 prediction wasn’t big enough.

Before a ball was kicked on Saturday, Hugh Dunnit put his reputation on the line with six predictions from across the Colleges Premiership, Championship and Conference.
There was no sitting on the fence. Six matches, six predicted scorelines and, as Hugh himself warned beforehand:
“No changing them once the first whistle goes.”
Well, the final whistles have now gone.
The verdict?
Three winners from six. No exact scores. And a couple of predictions that were much closer than the final scorecard suggests.
PREMIERSHIP
❌ Clydebank Red Star 4–5 Clydeside Athletic
Hugh predicted: Clydebank Red Star 4–2 Clydeside
Hugh got one thing spectacularly right here.
He predicted “end-to-end chaos.”
Nine goals later, that’s exactly what he got.
Unfortunately, he backed the wrong team.
Hugh expected Red Star’s attacking threat to eventually prove decisive, but it was Clydeside Athletic who emerged from a remarkable afternoon at Holm Park with a 5–4 victory.
HUGH’S VERDICT: Right game. Right chaos. Wrong winner.
✅ Rutherglen Glencairn 11–0 Netherton
Hugh predicted: Rutherglen Glencairn 5–0 Netherton
This might be Hugh’s finest failure of the weekend.
Before the game he announced:
“I’m going big with this prediction.”
His big prediction?
5–0 Rutherglen.
The reigning Premiership champions then went out and won 11–0.
Hugh correctly called the winner, correctly predicted the clean sheet and correctly anticipated a convincing Glencairn victory.
He just underestimated quite how convincing it would be.
HUGH’S VERDICT: Winner right. Clean sheet right. Apparently 5–0 wasn’t big enough.
CHAMPIONSHIP
❌ Glasgow Ansar 4–0 Cambuslang FA
Hugh predicted: Glasgow Ansar 3–4 Cambuslang FA
Oh dear, Hugh.
This was the one that got away from him completely.
He predicted an “absolute goal-fest”, backed Cambuslang to edge a seven-goal contest and even anticipated some late drama.
Instead, Glasgow Ansar responded brilliantly to their midweek setback and won 4–0.
Four goals did arrive.
They just all went in the same net.
HUGH’S VERDICT: We’ll move swiftly along…
✅ Pollok United 0–3 Muirend AFC
Hugh predicted: Pollok United 2–4 Muirend AFC
Much better.
Hugh expected Pollok United to make this competitive but backed Muirend to create the better chances and find the goals required to take all three points.
Muirend did exactly that.
It remained goalless at half-time before Muirend took control after the break and ran out 3–0 winners.
No exact score, but the important part was right.
HUGH’S VERDICT: Muirend backed. Muirend delivered.
CONFERENCE
❌ Vale of Leven 1–3 Lomond FC
Hugh predicted: Vale of Leven 2–2 Lomond FC
Hugh couldn’t separate two unbeaten sides going into one of Saturday’s standout Conference fixtures.
He expected drama and thought both would still be standing at the end.
Lomond had other ideas.
They produced an impressive 3–1 away victory to take all three points and end Vale of Leven’s unbeaten start.
Hugh correctly identified this as one of the games of the day — but picked the wrong outcome.
HUGH’S VERDICT: Lomond weren’t interested in sharing the points.
✅ Banknock 4–6 DTI AFC
Hugh predicted: Banknock 2–3 DTI AFC
This one deserves some credit.
Hugh backed DTI to win and predicted that they would find a way when “the game breaks open.”
It certainly broke open.
Ten goals later, DTI emerged with a 6–4 victory, with two late goals helping them secure the points.
Hugh didn’t get anywhere near the scoreline, but his reading of the game wasn’t bad at all.
HUGH’S VERDICT: Correct winner — and very definitely correct about the game opening up.
📊 HUGH’S SCORECARD
Predictions: 6
Correct winners/results: 3
Incorrect: 3
Exact scores: 0
Success rate: 50%
There are two ways Hugh can look at that.
Three wrong from six doesn’t exactly have the bookmakers running for cover.
But predicting amateur football is never straightforward — and within that 50% were some pretty decent calls.
He backed Rutherglen, Muirend and DTI correctly.
He anticipated chaos between Red Star and Clydeside, only to back the wrong side.
And when Hugh confidently announced he was “going big” by predicting Rutherglen would win 5–0, they responded by scoring eleven.
Maybe next week he needs to go bigger.

Three out of six.
I’ll take it.
I’m claiming the Rutherglen prediction as a moral victory, even if apparently my idea of a big win is six goals short these days.
As for Red Star v Clydeside, I promised you chaos and you got nine goals. Nobody said I had to pick the right team as well…
Ansar?
Let’s just agree never to speak about that one again.
The Hugh Dunnit Prediction Tracker is officially underway: 50%.
Mystic Meg can keep the job for another week.
I’ll be back.
