LAST ONES STANDING | SIX GCFA Clubs Remain Unbeaten

Six clubs remain unbeaten across the Colleges Leagues. Hugh Dunnit checks in on the sides still standing as the early-season unbeaten race begins to narrow.

We take a look at the Saturday morning Colleges teams who are yet to taste defeat this season.

Some have won every game. Others have already been tested by draws.

But they all have one thing in common.

Nobody has beaten them yet.

PREMIER LEAGUE – ONE REMAINS

Oban Saints are the only Premier League side still standing.

They have a perfect record of 3 games played and three wins recorded.

Unfortunately for Oban their match with Stirling university was called off last Saturday

🟠 THE CHAMPIONSHIP — ONE REMAINS

GLADSTONE ATHLETIC

Gladstone Athletic are the only Championship side still standing.

Their record isn’t perfect — a 3-3 draw with Eastwood Parkmount has already shown they can be tested — but nobody has managed to take all three points from them.

That’s what matters in this particular race.

🟢 THE CONFERENCE — FOUR STILL STANDING

If one unbeaten Championship side is impressive, the Conference League is taking things considerably further.

Four clubs remain undefeated.

GLASGOW ATHLETIC

The GCFA newcomers have wasted little time making their presence felt.

Glasgow Athletic have started strongly and, most importantly for this particular list, nobody has found a way to beat them yet.

Next up: —

CUMBERNAULD PUMAS

Cumbernauld Pumas are another club enjoying an unbeaten opening to the campaign.

The Pumas have already given Footy Focus plenty of reason to look beyond simply what happens on a Saturday morning, with a much bigger club story beginning to emerge.

For now, though, their football is doing plenty of talking as well.

Next up: —

LOMOND FC

Lomond FC have also forced their way into the early-season conversation.

An unbeaten start has ensured they remain among the Conference League sides setting the pace, and every additional result now adds a little more interest to how long that record can survive.

Next up: —

DTI AFC

DTI complete our current group of unbeaten Conference League clubs.

Their record has already been tested, with a 2-2 draw against Greater Croftpark Rose, but just like Gladstone in the Championship, a draw doesn’t remove you from this particular list.

DTI bent.

They didn’t break.

🔥 PERFECT OR UNBEATEN?

There is an important distinction.

Being unbeaten doesn’t necessarily mean having a perfect record.

Gladstone’s draw with Eastwood Parkmount and DTI’s draw against Greater Croftpark Rose are examples of that.

So as this feature develops, we’ll be keeping an eye on two different races:

Who can maintain a 100% winning record?

And ultimately…

Who can remain unbeaten the longest?

THE LAST ONES STANDING

For now, the number is six

Premier League – Oban Saints

Championship: Gladstone Athletic.

Conference League: Glasgow Athletic, Cumbernauld Pumas, Lomond FC and DTI AFC.

The question now isn’t simply who’s started well.

It’s who’s still going to be standing when we check again next week.

Footy Focus will keep following the unbeaten race as six becomes five, four, three, two…

Until eventually we’re left with one — or none.
