A reduced card… but there’s still plenty for Hugh to get his teeth into!
The Scottish Cup has been sticking its nose into the SPAFA Colleges Developmental schedule this weekend, meaning it’s a slightly trimmed-down card for Saturday.
But fear not…
Hugh Dunnit has still been doing his homework. 📚⚽
With games across the Under 21 Premiership, Under 21 Championship, Under 19 Premiership and Under 19 Championship, there’s enough action to keep the football detectives busy.
So, grab a cuppa, ignore the league tables because they have had barely any time to breathe, and let’s see where Hugh’s money would be going!
🏆 UNDER 21s PREMIERSHIP

Hermitage United v Greenock HSFPs

Hermitage United got their campaign off to the perfect start last weekend with a victory over Blantyre, while Greenock HSFPs are still waiting to get their season underway.
That makes this an intriguing one.
Hermitage have already got three points in the bag and, more importantly, have match sharpness on their side.
Hugh’s prediction: Hermitage United WIN ✅
“One team has points. The other has a game in hand. Hugh says points in the pocket beat games in the diary!”
🏆 UNDER 21s CHAMPIONSHIP

Fridays Result ⬇️
Bridgend 21s 1–3 Cambuslang Red Star 21s

A cracking contest here with plenty of excitement as Cambuslang Red Star came away with a 3-1 victory.
The Championship looks like it could be another league where nobody is going to make life easy for anyone.
Steins Thistle 21s v Riverside 21s

Steins 21s couldn’t quite get the result they wanted in their opener, going down 6-4 in what was clearly a game where the defenders probably didn’t get much of a say!
Riverside, meanwhile, finally get their campaign underway today.
Can Steins bounce back? Or will Riverside make the perfect start?
Hugh is sitting firmly on the fence for this one.
Hugh’s prediction: DRAW 🤝
“Ten goals in Steins’ opener tells Hugh one thing… predicting the scoreline is dangerous business!”
🏆 UNDER 19s PREMIERSHIP

Cumbernauld Colts 19s v Falkirk Foundation 19s

Cumbernauld Colts suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Finnart last Friday, while Falkirk Foundation couldn’t have asked for a much better start.
They defeated Glasgow United 4-0 in their opening fixture.
That result immediately puts Falkirk on Hugh’s radar.
Colts will certainly feel they can put that opening-day defeat right, but Falkirk’s confidence should be high.
Hugh’s prediction: Falkirk Foundation WIN 🔴
“Hugh likes what he’s seen from Falkirk. Four goals, clean sheet… that’s enough evidence for the detective!”
Dumbarton United 19s v Greenock HSFPs 19s

Another interesting Under 19s Premiership clash.
Dumbarton United made an excellent start with a 5-2 victory over St Patrick’s, showing plenty of attacking firepower in the process.
Greenock HSFPs, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw with Stenhousemuir Foundation in their opening fixture.
Dumbarton have already shown they can find the net, but Greenock will arrive knowing they’re more than capable of making this difficult.
Hugh’s prediction: Dumbarton United WIN 👀
🏆 UNDER 19s CHAMPIONSHIP

Newmains United v Cumberland Colts (Yellows)

An early start for both sides.
Newmains United make their first appearance of the season, while Cumberland Colts Yellows already have three points on the board after an impressive 4-0 away victory over Summerston last Saturday.
Newmains will be fresh, determined and keen to start their campaign with a bang.
But Hugh is just about siding with the team who already know what winning feels like this season.
Hugh’s prediction: Cumberland Colts Yellows WIN — just! 🟡
“Hugh expects this one to be tight. Cumberland Colts to sneak it… and Hugh might sneak off for another coffee afterwards.”
🔎 HUGH’S FINAL VERDICT

A reduced card doesn’t necessarily mean a reduced weekend.
There are plenty of interesting fixtures across the SPAFA Colleges Developmental sections, with teams looking to build momentum, bounce back from opening-day defeats and, in a few cases, finally get their seasons underway.
Hugh has spoken.
Now all that’s left is for the players to prove him right…
Or, more importantly, prove him spectacularly wrong! 😂
Good luck to every team involved this Saturday — and let the games begin! ⚽
