For this Nine and Feeling Fine, Hugh Dunnit takes a quick look at nine goalkeepers who have caught our attention across the Colleges setup.
No scouting jargon. No complicated ratings. Just nine keepers and what we know about them.
Ross Stewart — Remo FC
A young keeper who continues to improve as he gains experience. Ross is developing his game and is certainly one Hugh will continue to watch as the season progresses.
Jonny Clark— Park Sports Project
An experienced goalkeeper who previously played with Weirs before joining Park Sports Project. A capable shot-stopper who brings plenty of experience to the position.
Ross Gallagher — Clydebank Red Star
A big, imposing goalkeeper who has impressed Hugh whenever he has watched him. His size gives him a natural presence between the posts and makes him an important part of the Clydebank Red Star side.
Andrew “Podge” Patterson — Greater Croftpark Rose
An experienced campaigner who brings agility and good reflexes to the position. Footy Focus has seen Podge in action and his shot-stopping ability is one of his strengths.
Owen Coyle — Port Glasgow Boys Club.
A reliable goalkeeper who played his part in Port Glasgow Boys Club’s Championship-winning campaign last season. His handling and consistency have made him an important member of the side.
Craig Maitland — Oban Saints
A new arrival at Oban Saints who has quickly brought presence and organisation to the Saints’ defence. One to keep an eye on as he settles into his first season with the club.
Dean Blakley — Bishopton
An experienced goalkeeper who uses his positioning and reading of the game well. Proof that experience between the posts remains a valuable commodity in Saturday morning football.
Irwin Gray — Gladstone Athletic
Gray has been between the sticks during Gladstone Athletic’s impressive unbeaten start. As that run continues, he is another goalkeeper worth keeping an eye on.
Aran Whitelaw — Southside United
An experienced and vocal goalkeeper who helps organise the players in front of him. That communication and experience can be every bit as important as making the saves.
