Peter Urminsky | A New Presence Between the Posts at Albion Rovers

Peter Urminsky’s arrival on loan from St Mirren brings experience to Albion Rovers’ goalkeeping department. We look at his background and what his signing could mean for the Rovers defence.

Albion Rovers’ recent addition of goalkeeper Peter Urminsky on loan from St Mirren until January brings another experienced option to the squad at Cliftonhill.

The 27-year-old Slovakian goalkeeper developed through the youth system at Spartak Trnava before gaining experience with clubs including AS Trenčín, Ayr United, Stenhousemuir and Glentoran.

His arrival comes during a period of change in the Rovers goalkeeping department, with Marcel Krzeminski returning to parent club Queen’s Park and Grant Tamosevicius returning to St Mirren.

For manager Steven Saunders, bringing additional experience into a young defensive unit is an important consideration.

Speaking following the signing, Saunders highlighted the experience and commanding presence Urminsky could bring to the back line.

Rovers have experienced difficulties turning competitive performances into positive results this season, with defensive mistakes proving costly at important moments.

A goalkeeper who can organise those in front of him, communicate effectively and provide reassurance could therefore have an important role to play.

Of course, those qualities must be demonstrated on the pitch. Urminsky’s performances over the coming weeks will offer a clearer picture of the influence he can have.

With his loan currently running until January, the coming fixtures will provide an opportunity for both player and club to assess how the move is developing.
