Woodhill’s pressing, quick counters and two goals from corners helped secure a 9–1 Champions Cup win over Lomond Thistle Colts. Kyle Mclachlan gives the coaching view.

Woodhill’s organisation and energy stood out in their 9–1 Champions Cup win over Lomond Thistle Colts at Scotstoun. Against the leaders of the division above, they pressed together, attacked quickly and made their set-piece preparation count.
Coach Kyle Mclachlan spoke to Footy Focus about the teamwork behind that performance and his contribution while injury keeps him from playing.

A major injury has kept Kyle Mclachlan off the pitch, but he continues to contribute to Woodhill alongside manager Jed Connell.
“My role in my eyes is just to help the gaffer before matches and help out the boys as much as possible,” Kyle said.
He has enjoyed working with players who understand their roles and what is expected of them, while hoping to return to playing soon.
Against Lomond Thistle Colts at Scotstoun, their willingness to work together was particularly evident in the pressing.
“If one person doesn’t press, the whole thing falls apart, but everyone was on it today.”
Woodhill’s fourth goal was another highlight. Kyle described the counterattack reaching Lewis Robertson, whose ball across the box brought the finish.

A quick turnover, around five players joining the attack and a well-taken chance made it a move he especially enjoyed.
Preparation also paid off from corners, with Kyle crediting set-piece coach Scott Gardiner, known as the “Governor”.
“We scored twice from corners, which shows we have boys that have that willingness to go win anything.”
“Scott was proud today as we stuck to the set-piece plan well and got two goals from it.”
For Kyle, the players’ response to the coaching staff is central to how Woodhill operate.
“They take on board everything we say to them and embrace it.”
It left him pleased with both the performance and the contribution across the team.
“Overall, a good day at the office and a game the boys should be proud of.”

What impressed me about Woodhill was how well their effort matched their ability. They looked fit and well balanced, with players supporting attacks and working together to put Lomond under pressure.
Kyle’s explanation of the pressing helps make sense of what we watched. Everyone had a job, and the two goals from corners showed that preparation was being carried onto the pitch too.
For future Champions Cup opponents, their Division Four status tells only part of the story. This is a team worth taking seriously.
