For many involved in Scottish amateur football, Wilson McMillan was a familiar and respected figure whose contribution to the game spanned decades.

Whether as a player, referee, club official or committee member, Wilson dedicated countless hours to amateur football and was widely regarded as someone who always put the game first.

As news of his passing reaches clubs and officials across the country, we join the wider amateur football family in remembering a man whose commitment to the sport touched so many people.

It is with great sadness that the Scottish Premier Amateur Football Association announces the passing of Wilson McMillan, who sadly passed away yesterday.

Wilson devoted a lifetime to amateur football, beginning his playing career with Campsie Minerva in 1974. Towards the latter stages of his playing career, he took up refereeing within the former Stirling & District League, where he earned tremendous respect throughout the amateur game.

Wilson was immensely proud to have officiated in all three of Scottish amateur football’s major Saturday finals – the Scottish Amateur Cup, the West District Cup, and the East District Cup – a remarkable achievement that reflected his dedication and ability as a match official.

Following his retirement from refereeing, Wilson returned to his beloved Campsie Minerva as Club Secretary and remained a highly valued member of the club’s committee, continuing to give his time and commitment to the game he loved.

Wilson also played a significant role in the development of the Scottish Premier Amateur Football Association, serving on the Sub-Committee that was instrumental in its establishment. In recent years, he held the position of Treasurer, carrying out his duties with the same professionalism, integrity, and passion that characterised his lifelong involvement in amateur football.

Wilson’s contribution to the amateur game spanned decades, and his friendship, dedication, and unwavering commitment will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
