It was a cold, grey afternoon at Hillwood’s home ground in Priesthill for a 1:00 PM kick-off, but the action on the pitch was anything but dull. In a tense, action-packed encounter, Pollokshields and Hillwood battled out a thrilling 2-2 draw featuring an against-the-run-of-play opener, a dramatic red card, an outfield keeper, and a late equalizer.
First Half: Hillwood Strike Against the Run of Play
Pollokshields started the brighter of the two sides, probing early on and looking to carve through the host’s setup. However, Hillwood’s defense held firm under initial pressure. Jordon Gray nearly opened the scoring for Hillwood with a crisp strike from the edge of the box, while down the other end, Hastie broke in behind the Shields defense, only to be denied by sharp, desperate defending.
As the half turned into a pulsating end-to-end affair, Pollokshields looked comfortable—until the 40th minute. Against the run of play, Hillwood swung a deep cross to the back post. It was nodded back across the face of goal, leaving their Moran completely unmarked to head home from close range.
Pollokshields looked for an immediate response before the whistle, with Otham stinging the palms of the Hillwood goalkeeper Gray with a ferocious long-range effort, but the hosts held their lead into the break.

Second Half: Red Card Chaos and Late Drama
The turning point of the match arrived early in the second half. Hastie found himself one-on-one with the Hillwood goalkeeper Joshua Gray, leading to a heavy collision as the striker hit the turf. The referee showed no hesitation, penalizing the keeper and producing a straight red card.
With no substitute keeper available, outfield player Jordon Gray was forced to put on the gloves for the remainder of the match—and he was called into action immediately.
Gray produced a brilliant save to deny Potter’s long-range attempt. Pollokshields continued to push their numerical advantage, but wastefulness almost cost them: substitute Chris odubajo fired wide when sent clear one-on-one by Potter, and Liam Miller’s pot shot failed to test the makeshift stopper. Miller then sparked to life with a brilliant solo run, forcing another top-tier save from Jordon Gray.
Pollokshields finally broke through with 20 minutes remaining. Potter drove down the flank and hit a low cross-shot across the face of goal, which took a fortunate deflection off a Hillwood defender and trickled into the net to make it 1-1.
However, the drama was far from over. Virtually straight from the restart, Hillwood hit back. A loose ball bounced out to the edge of the box, and a Strain of Hillwood struck an unstoppable half-volley off the underside of the crossbar and in, restoring the 10-men’s lead at 2-1.
Undeterred, Gray continued his heroics in goal for Hillwood, coming off his line to forcefully punch away a dangerous ball into the box. But Pollokshields’ relentless pressure eventually paid off. Late in the half, Pollokshields got in behind again; Gray made the initial save on the drive, but Miller was quickest to react, smashing home the rebound from close range to make it 2-2.
Final Thoughts
A breathless 90 minutes of football ended with both sides taking a well-deserved point. Hillwood showed incredible grit to lead twice—including playing almost the entire second half with ten men and an outfield player in goal—while Pollokshields showed relentless spirit to fight back twice in difficult conditions. A proper local clash that had everything!
