Hamilton 40s v Giffnock SC


A must-win afternoon for Giffnock SC 40s saw them make the trip to Cambuslang for a 3pm kick-off — and they produced a ruthless attacking display to come away with an impressive 11-2 victory.

Giffnock SC 40s wasted little time getting themselves in front. New signing Ronald MacDonald picked out Lorn Gibson with a great ball through and Lorn made no mistake with a composed finish to make it 1-0.
Ronnie McDonald was in the thick of the action and this time he found striker Lorn Gibson free, Gibson was then brought down inside the box. PENALTY !!!!!
Up stepped Kev Gallagher, who calmly dispatched the penalty to double Giffnock’s advantage. 2-0 !!!!!
Hamilton were being forced to work hard, but Giffnock continued to create chances and the ever illusive Tahir Bhatti played a great ball through for number 10 Andrew Crosbie who saw his effort brilliantly saved, before Joycey picked up the loose ball and sent Lorn through only for the Hamilton keeper to produce yet another excellent stop.
Ronnie MacDonald won a header which eventually found its way to Bhatti, who laid the ball off nicely for Crosbie, but his effort went narrowly wide
The third wasn’t far away, though and Crosbie picked up a loose ball in the midfield area before firing home from just outside the box to make it 3-0.
Hamilton responded with a superb piece of attacking play of their own, with Hamilton breaking down the right before a great cross was met by a volley which flew into the corner off the post giving the keeper no chance. 3-1 !!!

Giffnock weren’t going to be slowed down, however. More clever play saw Crosbie lay the ball off for Ronnie McDonald, whose powerful strike was well saved by the keeper.
Minutes later then came another excellent move. Lorn found Bhatti, who could have taken the shot himself but instead squared the ball for Crosbie to place home a delightful finish and make it 4-1.
Gallagher was next to make an impact, producing great work down the left before crossing for Lorn Gibson to finish well and make it 5-1.
Giffnock were now finding space all over the pitch. Another good move down the right saw Lorn pick out Moffatt, who finished very well to made it 6-1.
A shout out to Whittaker and Healy who has kept the Hamilton striker’s quiet all half.
Before the break, Giffnock added another. More good play opened up the Hamilton defence and the ball eventually found Lorn Gibson, who fired home from close range. 7-1

There was no let-up after the interval.
Five subs for Giffnock at half time as they bring fresh legs into the squad as there is a big few weeks coming up.
Substitute Chris McFerteridge played the ball to Tommy McIntyre , who produced a great flick into the path of in form hitman Lorn Gibson and the striker showed his quality once again with a clever finish for 8-1. Definitely goal of the game
Lorn Gibson was every where at the moment and he then found Bhatti out wide, but the Hamilton keeper was equal to his effort and produced another excellent save.

Midfiejder JC was always in the thick of the action and found himself high up the pitch and laid the ball off to Lorn, who produced one of the goals of the afternoon — a 30-yard strike into the top corner to make it 9-1.
Giffnock SC 40s continued to attack, eventually getting into another dangerous area before man of the moment Lorn supplied the ball for defender Chris Moffat to score his second of the game, making it 10-1.
There was still time for another. A mazy run from Centre back Gordy Phillips ended with a cut-back for Chris McFerteridge who was on hand to tap home and put Giffnock 11-1 ahead.
Tommy McIntyre was loving life as he was roaming around picking up the ball In dangerous areas, he found time to lay off Gordon Philips but the marauding centre backs effort was well saved by the Hamilton goalkeeper.

Hamilton managed to find a second goal when a ball through the middle allowed their striker to round Murray and and reduce the deficit to 11-2.
Lorn Gibson almost added another late on, finding himself with space outside the box and unfortunately for him he struck the post with a powerful effort.
But the damage had already been done.

A convincing away victory for Giffnock, with Lorn Gibson and Andrew Crosbie leading the charge in a superb attacking performance.
