GDSFC Opening Fortnight: What the Tables Don’t Tell You

Fourteen perfect records, 403 goals and several immediate recoveries—the opening fortnight has already provided the first clues about the GDSFC season ahead.

Two weeks cannot define a season.

They can, however, provide the first clues about what might lie ahead.

Across the six GDSFC divisions, 64 valid league matches have already produced 403 goals—an average of more than six per game.

Fourteen teams have won both opening matches, while several others have already shown the character to recover from a difficult first result.

This is not about repeating who sits top of each table. It is about finding the early stories behind the results.

Premiership: Goals Everywhere

The opening ten Premiership matches have produced 60 goals.

Remarkably, both teams have scored in every game. The entire division is still waiting for its first clean sheet.

Todholm and Maryhill Milan are the only teams with maximum points after playing twice.

Todholm have done it with 15 goals, while Maryhill Milan have followed a more controlled route—scoring six and conceding only two.

Hillwood’s 8–4 victory over Polonia Glasgow also made their opening 2–2 draw with Pollokshields look like a stronger result for both sides.

Pollokshields remain unbeaten after drawing their opening two matches.

Championship: One Perfect Record

Caledonian Spartans are the only Championship side to have won both opening games.

Rossvale Sundays and Easterhouse FA are also unbeaten, with each collecting four points.

Drumchapel United Sunday produced one of the strongest Week Two recoveries. After losing 3–1 to Rossvale, they responded by beating Southside 7–2.

The Championship table has also been adjusted following EKYM Sundays folding, with their opening result removed from the records.

Division One: Two Different Perfect Starts

Springhall Spartans and Third Lanark Sunday have both collected six points.

Springhall have scored 11 goals across two convincing victories.

Third Lanark followed their nine-goal opening match against Chandlers with a much tighter 1–0 victory over Charleston Thistle.

Woodlands AFC also provided an early recovery story. After beginning with a 5–0 defeat, they responded by beating Chandlers Sunday 2–1.

Division Two: Big Numbers and Dramatic Games

Castlemilk FA and Vale AFC are the two teams with perfect records after playing twice.

Castlemilk have made the most powerful statistical start anywhere in the GDSFC, scoring 24 goals and conceding only once.

Vale have also impressed, scoring 11 and conceding two.

Innercity AFC have taken a completely different route through the opening fortnight. Their first two matches finished 3–3 and 5–5, producing 16 goals but no winner.

Bardykes Rovers also responded well to their opening defeat against Garrison Athletic, edging Glasgow Irish 4–3 in Week Two.

Division Three: Three Teams Set the Pace

Dennistoun Saints, Clydebank Sunday and Glasgow Villa have each won their opening two games.

Dennistoun lead on goal difference after scoring 16 times, while Clydebank have scored 12.

Glasgow Villa’s perfect start has come through two competitive games—a 4–3 win over Lomond Thistle Colts followed by a 5–3 victory against Muirend Athletic.

With three teams still perfect, Division Three already has the beginnings of an interesting early race.

Division Four: Four Perfect Starts

Division Four has more 100% records than any other GDSFC division.

AVA AFC, Woodhill AFC, Greens AFC and Glasgow Gladiators have all won twice.

Their starts have not been identical.

AVA and Woodhill have scored 14 and 13 goals respectively. Greens have found the net 11 times, while Glasgow Gladiators have taken maximum points after conceding only twice.

Elsewhere, Unity AFC recovered from a 5–1 opening defeat to win 4–0, while Jags For Good followed their opening loss with an impressive 6–2 victory.

The Story Is Only Beginning

These are early signs, not season-defining conclusions.

The value will come from following what happens next.

Which perfect records survive? Which difficult starts become recoveries? Which result suddenly looks more impressive once an opponent’s form develops?

The tables show where every club stands.

Footy Focus will follow the journey that takes them there.
