North Kelvin secured their first league victory after two draws, giving manager Olly and captain Adam Spychala confidence that their rebuilt young squad can now kick on.

Our Footy Focus writer spoke to North Kelvin manager Olly and captain Adam Spychala following the club’s first league victory of the season.
Together, their answers reveal the bigger story behind the result: a young squad rebuilding after losing several established players, but one now showing signs that it is ready to kick on.
North Kelvin’s first league victory brought more than three points. It provided early evidence that a rebuilt squad is beginning to come together.
Manager Olly lost several established players during the summer, with four or five regular starters stepping up to Lowland League and West of Scotland Football League clubs.
“I was absolutely delighted with the attitude we took,” he said.
“Over pre-season we lost four or five of our regular starters to Lowland League and WOSFL sides, so it’s been a bit of a rebuild.
“We could have felt sorry for ourselves after drawing the first two, but instead we were excellent.”
Captain Adam Spychala felt North Kelvin established control from the opening stages.
“We started the game really brightly and dominated the first half to take a 3–0 lead,” he explained.
“We probably could and should have had more.”
After creating numerous opportunities during their opening matches, Adam believes the first victory was deserved.
“To get the first league win is huge. We should be on nine points, in all honesty, because we’ve created so many chances — but a few bits of naivety have cost us.”

Kasra and Scott have played important roles in North Kelvin’s attacking threat.
“Having Kasra and Scott in the side makes a huge difference,” Adam said.
“They’ve scored a stupid amount of goals between them, so they both deserve the praise.”
Adam also sees plenty of promise within a young squad that is willing to work for one another.
“As captain, we’ve got a good group. We are young but determined to work hard and for each other.”

Olly has yet to settle upon his strongest starting eleven, with further recruitment and improved fitness expected to strengthen North Kelvin.
“Our squad is still growing. I’m yet to name my strongest eleven or strongest squad on paper,” he said.
“At the weekend, we brought in former Hearts and Pollok defender James O’Hara, and you could tell he was a step up. Adding a few more like him this week will help us.”
North Kelvin have enjoyed their introduction to the Conference League, even if Olly believes the campaign arrived slightly early for his developing squad.
“Life in the Conference has been good. We just need to get all our players fit and ready.
“I think the season probably started two weeks too soon for us, and I have no doubt we can now kick on.”
North Kelvin may still be rebuilding, but their first victory suggests the foundations are already being put firmly in place.
