Major Club closes its doors for the last time.

In a shocking turn of events for the local grassroots scene, a major amateur team has officially folded and will not be able to continue playing for the remainder of this season.
The club in question is Busby AFC.

Busby AFC have played their last game as an amateur team for the time being. It is a heartbreak for everyone connected to the club, and a massive loss to the local game. This decision was certainly not taken lightly, as Busby AFC have been a vital staple in the Saturday morning set-up since they joined the league around five years ago.
A Rich 18-Year Legacy
While their current league stretch saw them build a strong Saturday morning presence, Busby’s total history as an amateur club spans over 18 years. Throughout nearly two decades, the club experienced countless highs, but one of their absolute crown jewels came in May with a historic Jim Harvey Cup win.

That unforgettable cup glory was spearheaded by Joe Noon, who served as the dedicated leader and gaffer of the club for a number of years. Noonâs vision, steady hand, and passion built the core identity of the squad.

End of an Era
Unfortunately, football can be a brutal domino effect. Joe Noon stepped down at the end of last season, leaving large shoes to fill. Callum Moffat was brought in to take charge and steer the ship into the new campaign.
However, when a highly respected gaffer who built a team decides his time is up, it creates a void that is nearly impossible to patch over. Itâs always tough for a tightly-knit group of playersâdeveloped and nurtured under one managerâto find the same spark and stick around without him leading the dressing room.
As the new season kicked off, the writing was on the wall. Busby knew that their time in amateur football had come to an endâfor the moment, at least.
What Comes Next?
Here at Footy Focus Sport, we would love nothing more than to see Busby AFC take a leaf out of Lomond FC’s book: take the rest of the season out, recharge, rebuild, and return with real fire in their bellies this time next year.
Grassroots football needs clubs with the tradition and spirit of Busby AFC. Whatever the future holds for the players, coaching staff, and volunteers, we wish everyone involved with Busby AFC all the absolute best in whatever their future might be.
