Colleges Football Thriving as Applications Open for 2027/28

Saturday morning football continues to play an increasingly important part in the SPAFA setup, with applications now open for clubs interested in joining for the 2027/28 season.

For Footy Focus, it is another encouraging sign for the historical Colleges game we have been following closely for 4 seasons.

The Colleges Saturday morning section currently provides three open-age divisions — the Premier League, Championship and Conference — and has given us plenty to talk about already this season.

Alongside it sit SPAFA’s U19 and U21 development sections, providing football across different age groups under the wider association structure.

A League We’re Happy to See Thriving

Footy Focus has no official media role with SPAFA or the GCFA.

We are an independent amateur football blog and choose the matches, clubs, players and stories we believe are worth covering.

But being independent doesn’t stop us shouting about something when we think it deserves it.

And we are delighted to see Colleges Saturday morning football thriving.

We’ve watched matches, spoken to managers, players and referees and followed the stories developing across all three divisions.

Results, league tables, previews, match reports, awards, player features and the people behind the clubs have all formed part of our coverage.

We believe the Colleges game has plenty to offer clubs looking for competitive Saturday morning football — and we’re happy to help give it the exposure we believe it deserves.

Applications Open for 2027/28

SPAFA are now inviting applications from clubs interested in joining the setup for the 2027/28 season.

Clubs considering Saturday morning football can contact SPAFA directly for information about the application process, requirements and available places.

Footy Focus has no involvement in applications or decisions over admission. We’re simply happy to pass on the news and continue covering what happens on the park.

Saturday and Sunday — Our Amateur Football Focus

Our ambitions don’t stop with Saturday morning football.

On Sundays, Footy Focus also covers the progressive and growing Glasgow & District Sunday Football Championship (GDSFC), where six divisions give us another huge range of clubs, players and stories to follow.

The two setups are independent of each other, just as our coverage is independent of both.

That’s exactly how we want it.

Our aim is simple: to keep developing Footy Focus into one of the best places to follow amateur football — getting out to games, talking to the people involved and giving clubs and players coverage they might not otherwise receive.

So if more clubs are considering joining Colleges football for 2027/28, we’re glad to see it.
