Andrew Findlay: An Award for the Lomond Group

Andrew Findlay: An Award for the Lomond Group

Andrew Findlay was pleasantly surprised to be named Division Three Manager of the Month — and says the award belongs to the people around him at Lomond Thistle Colts.

Lomond sit top of the division with six wins from eight league games, but Findlay was quick to recognise the competition for October’s award.

“I know the managers from Glasgow Villa, Clydebank Sundays and Park Villa all could have easily won the award too with some good performances during the month,” he told Footy Focus.

His greatest praise, though, was reserved for his own squad.

“More than half the credit has to go to the players themselves. Without them I wouldn’t be in this position.”

He also thanked Daniel Porter and Ryan Jones, describing the three as being of one mind rather than working in fixed roles.

“They’re always there to bounce ideas off,” he added.

A comeback to remember

Asked for his standout moment from October, Findlay chose the Glasgow United game.

Lomond were 2–0 down inside 15 minutes but responded to lead 4–2 at half-time. For the manager, it was a “real bounce back performance” in a battle between two good sides.

When Footy Focus spoke to Findlay recently for Inside Verdict, he talked about the confidence he had in his players, even after two league defeats. That belief comes through again when he reflects on the people he works with.

“The lads themselves make it,” he said. “If it wasn’t for this group of boys we have now, we wouldn’t be here.”

A simple answer perhaps, as Findlay acknowledged — but one that tells you where he believes the credit for Lomond’s start belongs.
