Five of October’s GDSFC Manager of the Month winners share the stories, performances and people behind their awards.

GDSFC Managers of the Month: October’s Winners Have Their Say

Five of October’s GDSFC Manager of the Month winners have spoken to Footy Focus about their teams, the people around them and the moments that made the month memorable.
From comebacks and cup challenges to the work done behind the scenes, each manager gave us a different insight into their club.
Scott Brothers was quick to credit his players after Black Star recovered from two opening league defeats to put a run together.
“It’s always about the players ultimately. They are the ones who need to go and put a performance in.”
Scott highlighted three different challenges in October, including a fightback from two goals down against Hillwood. He also had special praise for captain Allan, who has been with him for seven or eight years.

Barrhead Victoria’s improvement from last season, particularly defensively, has pleased John Donaldson.
October wasn’t always straightforward, but the Vics found ways to pick up results. John also praised assistant Robert McLean, the committee and the players for their contributions.
“There are some very good teams in Division One and it will test our resilience. The whole squad will be required to get results.”

Having followed Garrison over the last two seasons, Footy Focus caught up again with Ben Whitley to discuss the team’s progress.
Ben sees the award as recognition for the whole group. His standout display came in defeat, away to Scaur in the Scottish Cup, when he felt the players showed the character he wants from his team.
“The result didn’t go our way but we never shied away from battling and competing.”

Andrew Findlay was pleasantly surprised to receive the award and felt several other Division Three managers could also have been recognised.
He praised his players and assistants Daniel Porter and Ryan Jones, while picking out Lomond’s response against Glasgow United: 2–0 down inside 15 minutes, they led 4–2 by half-time.
“More than half the credit has to go to the players themselves. Without them I wouldn’t be in this position.”

For Martin Alcorn, the award reflects progress since the move from Kelvindale to PSP Sunday.
He has enjoyed seeing a more settled squad come together and highlighted their comeback from three goals down against Glasgow On The Ball United.
Martin also singled out player and coach Paddy McShane for his work at training while injured: “He’s been incredible for us. He deserves the lion’s share of credit.”

Championship winner Andy Quinn of Kilsyth Athletic Colts completes October’s six divisional awards. We’ll look forward to sharing his thoughts when they’re available.
