Barrhead Victoria manager John Donaldson believes October’s Manager of the Month award recognises the work being done across the club.
The Vics sit second in GDSFC Division One with six wins from eight league games, having scored 45 goals and conceded nine.
For Donaldson, the defensive record is one of the clearest signs of progress.
“There have been a few that could have been avoided but, all in all, so much better than last season,” he told Footy Focus.
He was delighted to receive the October award and pleased that the players’ efforts in training had been recognised.
Finding results
Donaldson described October as a strange month. Barrhead haven’t always played at their best, he said, but have still managed to pick up results — another improvement on last season.
There are, however, tests ahead in a competitive Division One.
“There are some very good teams in Division One and it will test our resilience. The whole squad will be required to get results.”
A team effort
While Donaldson received the individual award, he was keen to recognise assistant Robert McLean’s role in the team’s improvement.
He also thanked the committee for taking care of matters off the pitch, allowing the pair to concentrate on coaching.
Finally, he praised the players for sticking with them and believing in what they are trying to do at the Vics.
