Martin Alcorn: A Fresh Chapter for PSP Sunday
Martin Alcorn’s October Manager of the Month award comes as PSP Sunday settle into a new chapter — and the manager is seeing progress on and off the pitch.
After around ten years involved in the GDSFC, Martin says recognition is always welcome. Following a difficult period with Kelvindale last season, he has enjoyed seeing things improve week by week.
PSP Sunday sit second in Division Four, with seven wins from nine league games. Martin brought a number of players across from Kelvindale and has been pleased by their commitment, as well as the way new arrivals have settled in.
“Bringing in folk and seeing them gel and get to know everyone is probably the best part,” he told Footy Focus.
One October moment stands out: PSP coming back from three goals down against Glasgow On The Ball United.
“Previously I’ve seen teams crumble but everyone dug in and got the job done,” Martin said. “Every point has been hard earned.”
He believes the division is competitive, though he had a light-hearted nod for unbeaten leaders Woodhill when considering whether every team could take points off each other.
The move from Kelvindale to PSP was, he says, straightforward, with Park Sports making it easy to establish the Sunday team.
“It feels good to be part of an overall recognised club that does a lot of good for the community.”
Martin reserved special recognition for player and coach Paddy McShane. Injury has limited his time on the pitch, but he has led training and given up plenty of time for the club.
“He’s been incredible for us,” Martin said. “He deserves the lion’s share of credit.”
The manager also praised the players for believing in the project and giving their all, while acknowledging that plenty of tough games lie ahead.
